Tidal Turbine in Strangford Lough The world's first tidal turbine to create commercial amounts of electricity from tidal energy is to be installed in Strangford Lough Co Down
Marine Current Turbines (MCT) said the installation of its SeaGen commercial energy system at the mouth of Strangford Lough will begin in August 07. The lough has one of the fastest tidal flows in th world and will help the turbine to produce electricity for about 1,000 homes in the area. Tidal energy is sustainable and environmentally friendly and its success in Strangford should encourage more tidal turbines throughout the UK and beyond.
